Welcome To My Life,

I am a brand new Syracuse University alum who accepted an offer to be a part of the 2009 Teach For America Corps. For the next two years, I will be teaching Title I Reading at an inner city middle school in Indianapolis, IN (my hometown).

As a teacher, I look forward to making a hands-on, direct impact on the American educational system and reversing the imbalance of educational opportunity for my students. I will strive to not let the many overwhelming obstacles facing teachers hold me back from providing my students with an excellent education. My goal is to deal with and teach my students on individual levels as well as motive them to take their education and future into their own hands, ignoring statistics and stereotypes.

Other things you should know about me: I love playing with my adorable dog, drinking chai tea, writing in my journal, contemplating and promoting conservative ideology, reading a good book and making things happen.

I invite you to share in this incredible journey of adventures and personal stories of a new teacher trying to make a mark on her students’ lives.

Katelyn Hancock

*I have changed the names of all of my students that I write about out of respect for their privacy.
